How is your Blood Pressure taken?

One of our highly trained colleagues will attach a cuff to your arm and will measure the flow of blood. The pharmacist will then explain the information given out by the machine to you. A normal level of blood pressure is usually about 120 (systolic) over 80 (diastolic). If your blood pressure is 140 over 90 or higher (or 140 over 80 if you have diabetes) you should discuss this reading with your doctor.

What is Blood Pressure?

When our heart’s beat, blood is pumped around the body to give it the energy and oxygen it needs. While the blood moves, it is pushing against the sides of the blood vessels. The strength of this pushing is our blood pressure. If our blood pressure is too high, it puts an extra strain on your arteries, and in turn our heart. This may lead to heart attacks and strokes.

Why is it important to monitor your Blood Pressure?

The higher your blood pressure, the greater your risk of heart attack or stroke, heart failure, kidney failure and poor circulation in your legs. These problems can be avoided if your blood pressure is controlled by having it checked regularly.

Keeping you safe in store

During the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we are working hard to ensure that our pharmacists can provide services, care and advice to you safely. Here are some of the things we are doing to keep you safe.

We're providing the service in line with the Government guidance on social distancing.

Our colleagues will be wearing PPE.

We will be aiming to limit the time you spend in contact with our pharmacists in our consultation room.

We will clean the consultation room before and after every appointment.
